This set arrived compactly packaged with just a few steps needed to get the pieces up and running. I ordered the purple version of the set.
The pilates ring needed to have its two segments snapped into the two handles. The pieces snapped together easily, and there was no guesswork involved since the handles are the same left and right, front and back — there was no way to go wrong, fortunately. Instructions are provided for the assembly.
For the ball, I was worried that I'd have to find our ball inflater, but a little straw was included for blowing into and inflating the ball, whew. It would be easy to deflate the ball again if needed for packing — simply pull out the white plug.
When for inflating the ball I pulled out the straw and quickly put in the plug, a little air escaped, but the resulting feel of the ball was exactly the same as for the balls at my gym. There's a little give, making the ball easy to grasp.
The bands span a nice range of resistance. My favorites were the Heavy and X-Heavy tensions. Two of the blue colors look pretty similar, but the words showing the resistance, like Heavy and X-Heavy, are printed on the bands in white. Coaches at my gym are always saying how great bands are (better than weights in some ways), giving continuous resistance and easy to take when traveling.
The pilates package includes a two-sided sheet of illustrated instructions for exercises using the pilates ring, pilates ball, and resistance bands. Most of the exercises were easily understandable even though I've never used a pilates ring before. Some of the poses seemed to have two steps looking the same. I'm imagining that in these cases you were supposed to squeeze the ring and it wasn't easy to show that in an illustration.
It would be helpful to have more written explanation in addition to the illustrations, but still I got a good workout. For many of the exercises I didn't even do more than one set, and it still ended up being about an hour workout! Part of that time was for my studying the illustrations and learning what I was supposed to do, but there is definitely enough material to carry a beginner through a meaningful workout.
I also checked out some YouTube videos and was happy to see that there are tons of videos related to the pilates ring. Somehow no pilates classes that I've taken have used a ring before, so I'm excited to learn about it. I could definitely tell that the ring added intensity and challenge, especially with my core and my arms. I was shaking for many of the exercises — a good thing! I think the YouTube videos will be helpful for hearing some fine points of instructions, getting tips, and of course learning new exercises and being motivated and guided.
I've used pilates balls and resistance bands at the gym many times before but didn't have any like these at home, so I'm really glad to have them, especially as the colder weather is setting in. Snow days will be coming when I won't be able to make it to the gym, and short days have taken away the possibility of evening walks. It's great that many YouTube videos include use of pilates balls and resistance bands as well as pilates rings. I'm hopeful that I can keep up my tone through the winter months.
Overall this is a fantastic set of pilates equipment. I'm really pleased with the quality and the ease of use. A final note that there were no annoying sounds or feelings from the equipment. There was nothing irritating that would grate over time. I highly recommend this set.
